Bad habits

We all have bad habits that can be annoying or bad for our health. These can be fairly harmless such as biting our nails or eating too much chocolate or they can be much more harmful to our health such as smoking, drinking too much alcohol or abusing drugs.

These more serious habits not only create problems of their own (for example, at work, in our relationships and with our health), but they make it harder for us to cope when other problems arise. This is because they prevent us from being physical strong and mentally clear to cope. Although bad habits may help to numb ourselves to our problems, they do not help in fixing the problem or in making it go away.
