Environmental control systems

Environmental control systems lets you to control your environment. This may mean that you can open and close curtains at the flick of a switch. It can also mean that you can open and close doors in your home.

Environmental controls, as the name implies, allow you to control the environment within the home. This might be done by opening and closing doors and windows or adjusting curtains or blinds using switches.

Multi-switch controllers and remotes

Some remote controls will do more than one thing. You might use the control to help you to drive your power wheelchair better.

Some multi-switches can also operate up to 240 other devices that use infrared transmitters and receivers. This could include a video, TV, stereo, door-openers, curtain controls or air-conditioning controls.

You can also use these switches and power wheelchair controls to operate your computer. The best thing about them is that, once installed on your power wheelchair, you do not have to plug it into your computer to operate it. It connects using infrared.

Using this controller you could:

• Drive your power wheelchair
• Open and close doors to let yourself out of or into the house
• Open and close curtains to control light or heat
• Operate any device with an infrared remote control (TV, video, stereo, air-conditioning)
• Operate any appliance that plugs into a power-point that is operated by infrared signal (turn lamps on and off, turn lights on and off, operate fans, boil the jug)

Simpler switches

Using a different switch device, you can control a power wheelchair and operate up to four other infrared controlled devices. This might mean that you could use a single-switch device to operate your computer, use the mouse and use Windows programs.

Intelligent remotes

Sometimes you might not want to control everything in the house with one switch. However, you might just want to have a single controller, mounted on a wheelchair or the wall. This might be a remote control to operate all of your sound and video equipment.

Using this remote control, you can operate your audio files on your computer, TV, video, stereo, DVD, using infrared signals from a remote.
