Getting around Now that you are thinking about getting out into the community, you will need to consider ways of getting from your home to wherever it is you want to go. You will probably find that most often you need transport to go shopping or to get to medical and health services. How you get there varies from person to person and also depends on where you live. You might opt for a form of public transport, such as taxis, trains and/or buses, or you might be able to choose private transport – driving yourself around in a car with modifications. The common thing is that you will need to have some way of finding and using transport that suits your needs. What you need to do is think about what you want to do, how you want to do it and work from there. By reading through the information on public and private transport, you will be able to make an informed choice. Whichever form of transport you use, there will be things that impact upon your individual needs. But always remember that there are ways of working with most things and achieving ways to ‘get out' and do what you want.
